i wanted to listen all the 100 contestants sets, and vote for all the uplifting set or good tech, classic and goa trance! but some of the uploaded set are in a shit host server, where i must wait after every! seriously i don't understand why peoples not uploading the sets for zippyshare where is possible to download more at the same time, or soundcloud where i could just listening at the site without download :hmmm:
now i will vote only for the familiar names about i already know they make a good show like tranzlift, sorry i don't have too much time for listening the sets especially with waiting for the download them! i even don't wanted to listening them from the start till the end every seconds at every sets as i don't have so much time, just listening few tracks for what kind of music is in the set and if it is good then i would mark those, i also don't care of the bad transitions, i'm not a dj but sure is not an easy thing to mixing a great uplifting tracks, not as the boring progressive where every beat and the tempo is the same there is not needed an extra work just put one track after another and it's done :)
and + with one thing would be easier the vote, if the dj would wrote what kind of set (uplifting tech goa or the boring progressive) he uploaded then i could select those what i want to listening and not wasting the time with any unenjoyable progressive "music"
thanks, hope next year it will be way so easier :beer2:

I hope you'll enjoy my set, thank you for the listening & the votes! And last, but not least good luck to all contestants!

11. DJ Pavle - EOYC 2012 Contest
∑ The mood starts off excellent once you kick in your set – Energy out of the gate is really nice. The mix around 07:00 felt a little awkward – not sure if it was off key or just forced at the wrong time. The mixes felt a lot smoother as a whole afterwards, and the energy was a constant. I didn’t recognize a good number of the tracks which was a plus in my book as well, lending that you listen to diverse artists I don’t know myself.

12. Distant Moon - EOYC 2012 Contest
∑ Interesting Mashup to kick off but I love the second track so I’ll forgive the DT8 Project miscue. :-P Too much a fan of the original myself. Leon’s the man so points there.

13. DJ Alex The Lion - EOYC 2012 Contest
∑ Your blurb about the genre being more commercial than 2005 was disheartening friend. Commercialization does not mean it went to “utter crap.” Frankly, in my own opinion, the attitude permeating so-called “true trance fans” about the stylistic changes across all sub-genres, and the growth of “crap trance” music, is saddening. Instead of simply loving the music you (generic here) love, we’ve resorted to bitter banter about the commercial success of artists whom may or may not have represented the genre in its “glory years.” The argument should be less about commercial success in my opinion, less to do with the genre as a whole, and more to do with the amount of crap out there. When labels got easy access and faster sales in the digital age, yes the quality of a release has dropped, less thought went into caring about a release and nurturing a career, and more important became the ability to turn profits quickly. If an artist really works hard and loves their music, who are we, as an audience, to say it is “crap.” It is their art, and art that gets put out there. Maybe you are upset that the top teir doesn’t love what you do, and that’s okay, it just means that your tastes don’t match those who are popular today.
∑ You asked what Trance is to me, well --- Trance is a feeling I get inside, a style of music I can lose myself in – be it techy, uplifting, euphoric, progressive, or anything else. Give me mood, melody and a good beat, and if I get lost in it, it may be trance. It may be Tech House or House too. BPM isn’t the be all and end all in my opinion. The style of a breakdown, the energy in a beat and bass line, those are elements of a trance song sure, but they aren’t TRANCE to me alone.
∑ The artists you list are all of a specific sound, one that personally tends to become very unemotional and static at times. They are, fortunately or unfortunately, a very niche part of the upper end of the BPM range of Trance these days. To be honest, I can only take so much of that in a set – which is why I’m not a huge fan of Aly & Fila or Christopher Lawrence these days. The sets blend into the same thing for two hours. I need a set with variety, sway, uniqueness, and ultimately identity. Many of the productions those artists you fight for in your statement put out very same sounding tune after tune, just like others who may be more “commercial.” Perhaps you like that; perhaps others don’t. It does not mean either are “utter crap,” it just means we have varying tastes.
∑ Your set has variety initially, and provides a sound that is emotional in its own way on the onset. The Trance community needs more songs like Korean Sunset in my opinion, but the sound is no longer club friendly, which is where the market has disappeared to these days. Halfway through your set, you suffer what I was mentioning above for me – the sound lacks emotion that was apparent earlier in the set. It’s got energy sure, but that’s all it has for me. Maybe I’m just too old school progressive house for this sound, but when all I hear is this sound, it leaves me empty.

14. Lucas Deyong - EOYC 2012 Contest
∑ Your set started off as a toe-tapper, but then I started losing interest in where it was headed. I suppose it felt like it blended into all the sounds I hear the “big guns” play in some regard. You picked it up with the Nhato track, which was cool to hear. The transition out of Tokyo was a little rough. Most of the set was alright otherwise, I caught nothing too major in it. I’d like to hear you develop your own sound more, and your skills seem plenty good, but watch for the mixes being forced at times.

15. Isaias Cobos - EOYC 2012 Contest
∑ OUCH on the start – that distortion sound on your opener is mighty painful to the ears. Otherwise the set didn’t do a whole lot for me to distinguish itself. The mixing was fine, but bland at the same time (i.e. all the mix points were expected to me). The track list didn’t contain things I haven’t heard numerous times this year from all sorts of DJs. In fact, I personally dislike the closing track, which really didn’t help your cause. It’s a personal thing, so don’t take it as a knock, I’m just stating an opinion. Overall, it was fine, but not all that unique to me.

16. MiMaMix - EOYC 2012 Contest
∑ Energetic & Melodic = I like it! The mixes felt a little static at times (the one out of Never Forget comes to mind) but overall there were no big hiccups. I really enjoyed the Ghoerghe Zamfir track – Trance needs more tracks like that in my opinion! Enjoyed the ride a lot on this set to be honest. It flowed, had variety, and brought out my light fingers (light design emulators haha!)

17. Kimochi - EOYC 2012 Contest
∑ Started off with a great track but that mix about 8:00 in threw all tempo and energy in the set off. Be careful about your mixes – tempo, BPM, pitch, and key are all important to consider when deciding to execute a mix. That mix didn’t play well, especially so early in a set. Watch your levels too, it is very obvious that you are clipping during the second track (or your “mastering compression” is really distorting the sound). The D&B break in the track was neat though. It’s obvious that you also love the high energy end of trance including those that touch into the Psy-Trance end. You bring a decent variety to a sound I’m not overly familiar with too, which was nice. The mix around 21:00 was a little sloppy in that it didn’t feel timed quite right. Keep working on your mixing – It’ll get there! The heavy use of Flanger in almost every track does get a bit old. Mix up you effects a bit more and help give variety to your set / performance!
∑ Advice for everyone - An old radio adage comes to mind – RED IS DEAD! Stay out of the reds and you’ll be okay. Why so many DJs think they should be there I don’t know, but it is clear that they have no clue what actually happens in the red zone – even well-known DJs. Loudness doesn’t make music sound better!

18. Last Sunlight - EOYC 2012 Contest
∑ I expect I’ll hear a bunch of the tracks you chose during the EOYC here on AH.fm. Sadly, that leads me to vote for others with a wider spectrum of variety. I’d love to hear a great range of Trance and Progressive and Tech here during the EOYC to see more brought across the station as a whole. That being said, your sound was very clean and the mixes seemed alright on the whole. The mix never really grabbed me, but it wasn’t bad in any way. I think I’ve just heard so many of the tracks so much this year that it didn’t grab my ear in any specific way. That also means your mixes were clean so good job!

19. DJ Yutaka Viper - EOYC 2012
∑ Beautiful choice of an opening track – I first heard this track played by Sied van Riel at Beyond Wonderland for ASOT550 – it instantly left me impacted. The first two tracks really set up the set well, and it was well mixed. Unfortunately, by ĺ of the way through the set I started to drift and wanted to hear other thing sounds. I can’t place why exactly, but it just seemed to happen. Still, from an overall stand point I though the set worked well.

20. tranzLift - EOYC 2012 Contest
∑ The set really wasn’t my personal flavor of trance, so I never really got into it. That mix around 12:30 to 13:15 was really messy, which caught me well off guard. Can’t really comment much more than that, I just never got into it and never felt like it was emotional or anything. Lots of energy and speed in it, so plus there for the sound you like. =0)

21. Trancer - EOYC 2012 Contest
∑ Definitely energetic right out of the gate. Mana’s been a popular tune this year so I’m not surprised I heard it in a set here again. The tracks you selected were diverse (gotta love Fireisland and Paladin is a great tune too!) and the vibe the set gets from the start is great. Definitely had the vibe of old school trance nights to me – I could picture the night going crazy. Cool set!

Thanks for your opinion! It's very important to me.

22. Sosenka - Eoyc 2012 Contest

Great choices for different tracks I havenít heard! The first mix caught me as a little too loud overall and I feel like I heard some distortion somewhere in it. Definitely watch the levels on your mixes, thatís really the only thing I can say. The tracks were fresh and interesting too, so good job mate!

23. Kiddy - EOYC 2012 Contest

THIS! This right here is what I want to hear to end my ear. Great set, great track and good mixes! LOVE THIS ONE! Job well done mate. No glaring issues from my perspective!

24. Reech - EOYC 2012 Contest

This set has a very Tritonal feel to it, and honestly, I canít tell whether I like it for that or not. Your mixes are clean but sometimes really quick, which disrupts the mood (27:45 as an example for me). Overall, decent track selection but nothing in particularly grabbed me. Keep it up, the set was good, just not what I was looking for probably during the listen session.

25. Voodoo Child - EOYC 2012 Contest

Decent set, but for the life of me nothing really grabbed me. I enjoyed the mixing; it was clean and without any major issues. The sounds just felt plain to me on this one. No clue to be honest as to why, it was a good listen, but not a great listen Ė which is honestly something I can say about a lot of sets out there. There were some classics in there, which were neat, but not enough to really grab me man. Good mixing and best of luck.

26. Impulsive - EOYC 2012 Contest

Decent set that never really grabbed me. It may be mostly due to the fact I was doing Uber-runs on D3 while listening to the set, but at the same time, I just never heard a track grab my attention away from the stress of the battles, or one that matched the fevered pace of the battles. It wasnít bad, and I noticed no bad aspects in the mixing, but I just didnít get captured for whatever reason by the magic. Keep working on perfecting your sound!

27. Hesham van Seleem - EOYC 2012 Contest

Your ASOT-like attempt of an intro made me chuckle. It was a bit long though. There were tons of known tunes in the mix, and the whole set was fast paced and mixed well. Lots of vocal tunes in there as well. There was something missing for me though. I canít explain exactly what it is, but I just wasnít falling into the set. Maybe it was the furious pacing, maybe it was just the tracks playing in the order they were Ė Iíve no clue. Good set, but there was something missing for me.

28. Protrapik - EOYC 2012 Contest

Energetic right out of the gate Ė WOW. The energy keeps rocking hard from the start, and Iím three tracks in without a breathing point. The second mix was a little rough, in that it was a bit long so the fade was more noticeable. The effects around 27:00 are a bit distorted on the high end - not sure if that was the effects themselves, or the track production. Overall, Iíll say the set was enjoyable, but I didnít really groove much to it. Decent job mate!

29. DJ Hike - EOYC 2012 Contest

I liked seeing some more obscure labels on this set - Blue Soho, Sorcery, and Silent Shore are all great labels. The Armada / Garuda attack was also noticeable on this set, though you made good choices for those labels as well. The starting off with ďHow DO I knowĒ is far too reminiscent of the Universal Religion CD for me though. Watch the levels on that first mix; the second track comes across way stronger than the first. AS I listened through the set, the only thing I really noticed was that the mixes were a little rough around the edges. Keep working on those. Track selection was okay; some of those unkowns really caught my ear.

30. Wolvy - EOYC 2012 Contest

Very Balearic opening but the mixes really need some work here. The vibe becomes lost during the mixes even when the tracks rock. Another point off for me is Concrete Angel. The track wasnít something I really liked when it came out, and is so oversaturated for me at this point, Iím no longer enjoying it. I follow FloE on Soundcloud, so it was cool to see others dig his sound as well. Keep working on the craft, youíll get there.

31. Energetic Horizons - EOYC 2012 Contest

So two classic tracks to open (Granted that the Flaming June remix is a new remix) - not bad, but waiting to hear where you are going. The set kind of doesnít go anywhere for me. The songs are all good and well chosen, but the pace doesnít pull me into it, nor does the emotion of the songs really tug at me. It does feel well mixed, but the overall package feels just like that a package, and not a set Iíd dance out to.

32. Hamten - EOYC 2012 Contest

Wow, parts of ďA Day Without RainĒ really remind me of Flaming June by BT. Cool track! Oh speak of Flaming June, lol, there it is. The tracks you selected work well together, but none of them really presented a concept or emotion to me as a whole. I sat here waiting to be pulled into the mix, to feel the beat running through me, but all I was really getting was the energy of a beat pattern, not the mix itself. I wish I could explain it better to you, but I canít find the right words. Your tracks were really neat, but maybe the ordering didnít work well for me. Iím not sure as nothing was glaring out at me as an issue. Head scratcher for sure!

33. Ole Petersson - EOYC 2012 Contest

I love me some Leon - so great choice on your first track! The set unfolded nicely, and the tracks had that techy edge to them which was a nice switch up. That Cliff Coenraad remix was interesting, and the mix was a little slow coming out of it. It was also nice to hear you use effects tastefully - something I find is often lost on DJs these days. Definitely one of the more different mixes in this contest so far. Points off for Concerte Angel though. Tsk Tsk!

34. Mikey K. - EOYC 2012

Well, you sir win a creativity and risk award for your set. That second mix was really rough (08:30) and made me want to switch after the insanely pitched up vocals of ďSatellite.Ē I give you credit for trying something different, and doing something creative with the track you chose, but you also need to make sure they harmonically and sonically mix. The distortion in track three is horrible, and painful to listen to. REALLY REALLY watch your levels when doing mashups, especially if you choose to go and do them live (off the cuff). The bass drum is absolutely horrible sounding in that third track. Practice more, make those mixes clean, and who knows what could happen. Kudos on trying something different.

lol thanks. technicality wasnt something that i was always careful about. i know raising the pitch of the vocal drastically was an unconventional thing to do, and even as for the heavy clashing of the lower frequencies during a transition i found it ironically musical to my ears, but thanks for pointing that out that it sounds horrible. lol.

35. DJ VERDASTRO - EOYC 2012

Very massive type of sound right out of the gate - brings the air of peak time at big festivals to me. really enjoyed the back half with iRok and Belmont’s Revenge. I got more into that than the front, but I was rocking out in my chair doing D3 runs so good work!

36. DjJohn - EOYC 2012 Contest

Your set didn’t do a whole lot for me mate. The mixes were nice and clean (even the cuts) which was excellent to hear. The mix around 18:30 though was a bit of a give me, simple crossfade. Good to see you mixing up styles, but that one was a bit simple and bland.. in fact, I felt the way it came across hurt the flow of the set.
I’ll say it again, there is no such thing as real trance. Its a very big genre, with good variety, some you like, some you don’t. The fact is, I see more than a fair share of uplifting fans complain about how “trance” has changed over the last 5 years. I’m saddened to see a genre growing and evolving is slammed by so many for it. Sure, not everything that comes out is great (a washed marketplace is the real blame for this), but the genre you love, or subgenre really, is still there. Who cares what people label it? Just love it and leave the rest where it is.

37. Andromedha - EOYC 2012 Contest

The set was superbly mixed and really was a smooth listen. There was nothing technically wrong or anything, but I did admittedly find myself listening more to it as background sounds than as a radio show set that grabbed my attention. I can’t put my finger on why, but it may have been the similar sound throughout the set, though I do love the sound. The transition at about a quarter of the way through the set was neat, tidy, and grooved in all the right ways. I think the intro just kind of has a big lull in it, because the progress made later was really cool. Your set reminds me a lot of Mike Foyle and old Old Markus Schulz!

38. Replicate - EOYC 2012 Contest

I can't say much about this one. Everything was just okay. The mixes themselves felt pretty clean, the track choices were okay but nothing stellar to me. I like “Let The Light Shine In” and “I’ll Listen” but they just feel kind of empty here for some reason. I wish I could say way to be honest, but I can’t. The set just kind of washes into the rest of the music landscape out there to me.

39. Gate of paradise - EOYC 2012 Contest

The mix around 11:25 was very awkwardly timed. THe mix features pretty much all people I’ve never heard of, and while some tracks were nice, uplifting sadly leaves me wanting more 90% of the time. It comes across so samey for me. I don’t know. It was nice hearing things I don’t hear at all really, and it was cool to see you loving your sound and wanting to share it. Keep it up and work on clean mixes my friend!

40. Mannie Kumar - EOYC 2012

Pretty opening track - if I recall correctly, that was a free track they gave away. Love the Federation inclusion (Ben Lost + Solarstone = WIN!). I really enjoyed the moodiness of your mix and found it to have a good consistent flow. I can see you are quite the fan of the Perfecto label, but I would have liked to see more labels represented as a whole. Keep up the good work!

41. Ayham52 - EOYC 2012

Definitely energetic out of the gate! The front half of your set screams peak hour to me, which is cool. I see a lot of Armada in your mix, which is a bit disheartening, because I would have liked to hear a bit more variety of labels in a set – Armada just seems to be very same sounding these days as a whole. Beautiful choice in the Tenishia track! The only downside, really here, is that it all sounds like anyone else on Armada music right now. I would love to have heard more variety from smaller labels as a whole. You’ve got some great choices, but I need a bit more variety in the sounds. Keep growing! You’re mixes were fine, though there were times I felt myself drift before the drop.

42. Enlusion - EOYC 2012 Contest

Nothing really caught me here. Decent set, but the mood never really drew me in, nor do I feel like the tracks were that great (personal opinion obviously). They just don’t strike me as that good, not that they’re bad or anything; they just catch me as ordinary. The mixing is well executed, though there are bits where levels get a little muddy. Nothing too bad, but still, could be better.

43. Curs3d - EOYC 2012 Contest

Love the mellow intro! It’s very refreshing after hearing straight banging beats (even in my own sets) to start a set. With that said, make sure to use the real track next time and not the version off of ISOS with Glenn Morrison’s “Contact” mixed in. ;-) I’m glad someone else caught Red Violin – very obscure but amazingly emotional track in my opinion.
I really liked the mood and style in the mix, and my toes were tapping to it, but it also seemed to lack that grab and mystify me feeling. I guess one way to describe it is that I’d find myself swaying on a dance floor but not getting lost in the moment. Not sure that helps really. The transition around 28:00 felt a little bland and lost a bit of the flow.

44. Quji - EOYC 2012 Contest

Very acoustic feeling introduction which feels VERY unique; only issue is that I wasn’t a fan of the song. The mixes come across as very static and you tend to lose momentum that a track builds in a set during them. This was very apparent around 11:00 into the set. Track selection overall was okay, but nothing really caught my ear in particular.

45. DJ Jayz - EOYC 2012 Contest

That first mix could have been a little cleaner. It felt so unnatural. The mixes in general just didn’t strike me as the clean sound I’d expect to hear during this type of competition. There seemed to be a distinct lack of flow to the set as a whole, which tempted me to go on to the next set. Decent effort, but I think you can grow to be a better DJ still.

46. Cosmin Man - EOYC 2012 Contest

I really liked the quirky opening track. I really enjoyed this set curse. You played plenty of track I had no clue of, lost me in the mindset of the mix, and really did an excellent job of providing mood, energy, and flow overall. Sure, I knew some of the tracks, and a couple were huge, but you provided a mix that looked through a number of crates. Good job mate!

poll open :)

May this year's result hopefully be more fair!
Here are some of my personal impressions.

Let's begin with the most negative thing about the 100 entries:
To be honest, I really don't know why some contestants don't use the established file hosting services.
I'm really sorry at this point, but there are a handful of 'undownloadable' mixtapes, so I won't even consider voting them.

Second of all, the most terrible sets were those who are strictly orientated towards commercial trance.
Many contestants just seem to copy the styles of Armin, Markus or A&B. In my opinion, that's not what this contest is all about.
I tried to listen to something fresh and unique. Plus, the mix has to be technically correct.
Then again, there has to be some kind of flow in the mix. Progression is what it's all about.

Enough said about the bad things, here are some positive impressions:
I especially liked the sets which are meant to introduce the listener with a promising vibe. The best sets are those ones that build up slowly and unleash the power at the end. These are my votes:

(03) - Alfurez
Very good track selection, interesting transitions, although I missed a bit more flow in this set. You could have chosen slower or minimalistic tracks at the very beginning. Nevertheless... this was uplifting at its best!

(12) - Distant Moon
Unique mixture of different trance sounds, picks up pace at the right moment. Melodic goodness! Plus, the selected vocal tunes do fit incredibly well. You really know how to compile a thrilling set! You've got my vote.

(23) - Kiddy
Blissful intro to say the least. Nice transition to the more uplifting and emotional part of the set. Sound lacks a bit of quality in terms of bitrate later in the mix, though. Decent amount of emotional trance at the end. This is exactly the feeling I want at the EOYC this time.

(25) - Voodoo Child
Congratulations! You REALLY REALLY deserve to get the top spot this year. My personal favourite of all the 100 contestants! PERFECT dark prog trance at the beginning, the buildup is immense! As if this wasn't just enough, you decided to put another icing on the cake which is your set by going back in time during the second half. Although this wouldn't fit the EOYC itself, I do count on you producing something like your personal favourites this year. Thanks for this well-spent one hour!

(37) - Andromedha
May be a bit too much shameless self-promotion. Nonetheless, you truly captured the essence of deep trance. It wouldn't be bad if you made your set more diverse with uplifting sounds at the end.

(38) - Replicate
This has to be the best intro out of all entries. The tracks selected could have been more smooth and delightful, but the buildup is made very well. Nice balance between more popular tunes and pretty unknown tracks!

(40) - Mannie Kumar
Truly uplifting set with a nice intro. This doesn't get boring at all - when compared to the dozens of other 'pure uplifting' sets. The track selection is just perfect! One of the best sets!

(44) - Quji
You would definitely belong to one of the examples why it's not exceptionally about TRANCE here on AH.fm, but also about PROGRESSIVE. Good to see influences from the deep and oldschool progressive side of house music! It doesn't always has to be the futuristic sounds you'll find on Beatport's top spots. Fantastic mixture!

(48) - Pulse Origin
We seriously need more Psy-Trance / Goa sets on this year's countdown. Thank you, Pulse Origin, for delivering the second best mix in here! Those mashups are incredible, by the way! You introduced me to next-level trance goodness.

(59) - Anton Karpoff
Among all those 'trouse' sets, yours is definitely the best. Nice vocal tunes! Transitions are flawless.

(64) - Bibhas
Precisely the best out of progressive and uplifting trance in one hour! Melodic and banging at the same time. You could have put more tracks in there, to be honest.

(97) - Carl van Gander
This one was very special! Gorgeous classics selected here. I'm not sure whether you could deliver one hour with 2012 tracks, because this is one of the reasons why EOYC exists. Good job, though!

I'd like to take a moment here, and thank everyone who did listen to my set and gave me a feedback, which i hope will help me in the future.

I would love to give some feedback as well, but unfortunately, had time to listen to around 30 of the submitted mixes. Rough time at university.

Anyway, voting is open, and good luck, all of you ;)

11 DJ Pavle - EOYC 2012 Contest
Very solid opening track! Be careful you don't mix the tracks to fast as some of the tracks melodies tends to overlap each other. Again, superb energy and power; A real treat for uplifting fans. Like I said before, a 100% uplifting set lacks some flow, and that's also the problem here. You can still make a very uplifting set with a flow by picking a slower first track and try to build it up from there. Nice set though, enjoyed it!

12 Distant Moon - EOYC 2012 Contest
Great track for a uplifting set, you actually manage to pick a relative slow track as an opener and then pick it up from there. The transition between track 2 and 3 could be a bit better, but overall I think you did a pretty good job at mixing your tracks. Also nice you picked a few vocal tracks. Again, a very uplifting set with difficult transitions, but all in all, pretty good!

13 DJ Alex The Lion - EOYC 2012 Contest
Great to hear an intro mix as it sets the mood for the rest of the set. Oh, and this set is also uplifting! A real treat for uplifting fans so far! Work a bit more on your transitions as some of them lose some energy and ruins the general flow. Try work a bit more on beat-matching as well. I think you did a nice job at picking a bit more unheard of uplifting tracks, for me at least, but it lacks a bit of flow. It constantly travels through the 138BPM journey, which some definitely will approve though.

14 Lucas Deyong - EOYC 2012 Contest
Couldn't download it, unfortunately

15 Isaias Cobos - EOYC 2012 Contest
Nice trackselection and fine mixing at most moments. I would probably reverse the tracklist a bit, but the last two tracks as number 1 and 2, but that's just me. It would create a better flow to the set and make it even more enjoyable. Some of the transitions are a bit messy, but I think you handle it pretty well in general.

16 MiMaMix - EOYC 2012 Contest
'Lots of energy in this one! You know how to pick some high energy and powerful tracks all the way through and keep it at a high BPM all the way through. Be careful with the transitions and mastering of the tracks. The transitions gets a bit to loud at some places and there's a noticeable difference in the overall volume of each track. Your track selection is great though and I know many will like your set!

17 Kimochi - EOYC 2012 Contest
Fine power and energy, again a very uplifting set. You have a great taste for the harder side of the uplifting trance and have a great trackselection. Be careful with the transitions though, they are very long and pretty much appears at the very last of each track. Try pushing the boundaries a bit and make the transitions come sooner; it'll create a better flow and perhaps even make space for one more track.

18 Last Sunlight - EOYC 2012 Contest
Very nice first track, nice energy, but still invites you to a much greater set with even more power. Pretty nice transitions and overall flow, try work a bit more on your mixing skills when the bass is very dominant and beat-matching. You did a fine job at picking the right tracks at the right moment.

19 DJ Yutaka Viper - EOYC 2012
Technically a very fine set with smooth transitions. Not as uplifting as many of the other sets, but still with a lot of energy. Especially the first 30 minutes is great, technically speaking. The transitions gets a bit edgy at the last 30 minutes, when the more banging tracks enters. Uplifting tracks are, as said before, very hard to mix! Keep on practicing!

20 tranzLift - EOYC 2012 Contest
Slow set at around 110 BPM... no really, this is tranzLift, what did you expect? Of course this is a very banging set from the very beginning. Nice to hear some of your own productions too. Some of the transitions are a bit messy because the mixing starts to early. It definitely keeps the energy high, but also ruins the overall flow a bit.

Verdict so far: (Set 1 - 20)
Overall I think everyone did a very nice job. I often complain about a lack of flow, but it can be VERY hard to create a nice flow, when you only have 60 minutes and especially if you stick with one genre all the way through. Mixing uplifting tracks can be very hard and I suggest you to start with 134-136 BPM tracks, just for practice and then work your way up. Many of the sets have been 80-100% uplifting, which I feared a bit from the beginning, but that doesn't mean I didn't enjoy each set.

thanks for the good advise, I will try to hit a bit early for the transition in the future :)

11. DJ Pavle - EOYC 2012 Contest
∑ The mood starts off excellent once you kick in your set Ė Energy out of the gate is really nice. The mix around 07:00 felt a little awkward Ė not sure if it was off key or just forced at the wrong time. The mixes felt a lot smoother as a whole afterwards, and the energy was a constant. I didnít recognize a good number of the tracks which was a plus in my book as well, lending that you listen to diverse artists I donít know myself.

12. Distant Moon - EOYC 2012 Contest
∑ Interesting Mashup to kick off but I love the second track so Iíll forgive the DT8 Project miscue. :-P Too much a fan of the original myself. Leonís the man so points there.

13. DJ Alex The Lion - EOYC 2012 Contest
∑ Your blurb about the genre being more commercial than 2005 was disheartening friend. Commercialization does not mean it went to ďutter crap.Ē Frankly, in my own opinion, the attitude permeating so-called ďtrue trance fansĒ about the stylistic changes across all sub-genres, and the growth of ďcrap tranceĒ music, is saddening. Instead of simply loving the music you (generic here) love, weíve resorted to bitter banter about the commercial success of artists whom may or may not have represented the genre in its ďglory years.Ē The argument should be less about commercial success in my opinion, less to do with the genre as a whole, and more to do with the amount of crap out there. When labels got easy access and faster sales in the digital age, yes the quality of a release has dropped, less thought went into caring about a release and nurturing a career, and more important became the ability to turn profits quickly. If an artist really works hard and loves their music, who are we, as an audience, to say it is ďcrap.Ē It is their art, and art that gets put out there. Maybe you are upset that the top teir doesnít love what you do, and thatís okay, it just means that your tastes donít match those who are popular today.
∑ You asked what Trance is to me, well --- Trance is a feeling I get inside, a style of music I can lose myself in Ė be it techy, uplifting, euphoric, progressive, or anything else. Give me mood, melody and a good beat, and if I get lost in it, it may be trance. It may be Tech House or House too. BPM isnít the be all and end all in my opinion. The style of a breakdown, the energy in a beat and bass line, those are elements of a trance song sure, but they arenít TRANCE to me alone.
∑ The artists you list are all of a specific sound, one that personally tends to become very unemotional and static at times. They are, fortunately or unfortunately, a very niche part of the upper end of the BPM range of Trance these days. To be honest, I can only take so much of that in a set Ė which is why Iím not a huge fan of Aly & Fila or Christopher Lawrence these days. The sets blend into the same thing for two hours. I need a set with variety, sway, uniqueness, and ultimately identity. Many of the productions those artists you fight for in your statement put out very same sounding tune after tune, just like others who may be more ďcommercial.Ē Perhaps you like that; perhaps others donít. It does not mean either are ďutter crap,Ē it just means we have varying tastes.
∑ Your set has variety initially, and provides a sound that is emotional in its own way on the onset. The Trance community needs more songs like Korean Sunset in my opinion, but the sound is no longer club friendly, which is where the market has disappeared to these days. Halfway through your set, you suffer what I was mentioning above for me Ė the sound lacks emotion that was apparent earlier in the set. Itís got energy sure, but thatís all it has for me. Maybe Iím just too old school progressive house for this sound, but when all I hear is this sound, it leaves me empty.

14. Lucas Deyong - EOYC 2012 Contest
∑ Your set started off as a toe-tapper, but then I started losing interest in where it was headed. I suppose it felt like it blended into all the sounds I hear the ďbig gunsĒ play in some regard. You picked it up with the Nhato track, which was cool to hear. The transition out of Tokyo was a little rough. Most of the set was alright otherwise, I caught nothing too major in it. Iíd like to hear you develop your own sound more, and your skills seem plenty good, but watch for the mixes being forced at times.

15. Isaias Cobos - EOYC 2012 Contest
∑ OUCH on the start Ė that distortion sound on your opener is mighty painful to the ears. Otherwise the set didnít do a whole lot for me to distinguish itself. The mixing was fine, but bland at the same time (i.e. all the mix points were expected to me). The track list didnít contain things I havenít heard numerous times this year from all sorts of DJs. In fact, I personally dislike the closing track, which really didnít help your cause. Itís a personal thing, so donít take it as a knock, Iím just stating an opinion. Overall, it was fine, but not all that unique to me.

16. MiMaMix - EOYC 2012 Contest
∑ Energetic & Melodic = I like it! The mixes felt a little static at times (the one out of Never Forget comes to mind) but overall there were no big hiccups. I really enjoyed the Ghoerghe Zamfir track Ė Trance needs more tracks like that in my opinion!

Be careful about your mixes Ė tempo, BPM, pitch, and key are all important to consider when deciding to execute a mix. That mix didnít play well, especially so early in a set. Watch your levels too, it is very obvious that you are clipping during the second track (or your ďmastering compressionĒ is really distorting the sound). The D&B break in the track was neat though. Itís obvious that you also love the high energy end of trance including those that touch into the Psy-Trance end. You bring a decent variety to a sound Iím not overly familiar with too, which was nice. The mix around 21:00 was a little sloppy in that it didnít feel timed quite right. Keep working on your mixing Ė Itíll get there! The heavy use of Flanger in almost every track does get a bit old. Mix up you effects a bit more and help give variety to your set / performance!
∑ Advice for everyone - An old radio adage comes to mind Ė RED IS DEAD! Stay out of the reds and youíll be okay. Why so many DJs think they should be there I donít know, but it is clear that they have no clue what actually happens in the red zone Ė even well-known DJs. Loudness doesnít make music sound better!

18. Last Sunlight - EOYC 2012 Contest
∑ I expect Iíll hear a bunch of the tracks you chose during the EOYC here on AH.fm. Sadly, that leads me to vote for others with a wider spectrum of variety. Iíd love to hear a great range of Trance and Progressive and Tech here during the EOYC to see more brought across the station as a whole. That being said, your sound was very clean and the mixes seemed alright on the whole. The mix never really grabbed me, but it wasnít bad in any way. I think Iíve just heard so many of the tracks so much this year that it didnít grab my ear in any specific way. That also means your mixes were clean so good job!

19. DJ Yutaka Viper - EOYC 2012
∑ Beautiful choice of an opening track Ė I first heard this track played by Sied van Riel at Beyond Wonderland for ASOT550 Ė it instantly left me impacted. The first two tracks really set up the set well, and it was well mixed. Unfortunately, by ĺ of the way through the set I started to drift and wanted to hear other thing sounds. I canít place why exactly, but it just seemed to happen. Still, from an overall stand point I though the set worked well.

20. tranzLift - EOYC 2012 Contest
∑ The set really wasnít my personal flavor of trance, so I never really got into it. That mix around 12:30 to 13:15 was really messy, which caught me well off guard. Canít really comment much more than that, I just never got into it and never felt like it was emotional or anything. Lots of energy and speed in it, so plus there for the sound you like. =0)

21. Trancer - EOYC 2012 Contest
∑ Definitely energetic right out of the gate. Manaís been a popular tune this year so Iím not surprised I heard it in a set here again. The tracks you selected were diverse (gotta love Fireisland and Paladin is a great tune too!) and the vibe the set gets from the start is great. Definitely had the vibe of old school trance nights to me Ė I could picture the night going crazy. Cool set!

thanks for the great advise,I am just an amateur and it's good for you to point out the things I need to improve. I agree that the RED can be too loud, and I will be more care and mix down the level...I will working on the transition as well, when I get more practice :)

Thanks to taking your time to listen my set, and I wish you the wish result in this contest

Sorry guys. I really have to apologize for the mix i submitted for this years competition. I only heard about it an hour before 100 spaces were filled and didn't have time to submit a competition mix. I submitted a mix i did messing about with few new tunes i got that week. Because of this i don't expect to win a spot this year. I wish all the best to the guys who put effort and time into their mixes. There is a lot of talent out there and i wish i had the time to showcase mine :) Good luck to everyone who entered. :)

So far...
Alex The Lion: very nice set, great tracks, massive transition
DJ Yutaka Viper - first half is quite boring but second one... BANG, you used a massive track for starting uplifting part :)
Galin Rashkov - unbelieveable uplifting set, amazing tracks you used, really enjoyed it
Isaias Cobos - another massive great set!!
Kimochi - really enjoyed your set mate, you got very good style for trance :)

I am glad you enjoy my set ^_^

I noticed bit of musical racism here in this thread LOL Uplifting is not only and not best trance sub genere to date LOL Many of non+uplifty submissions tops 140bpm sets with most votes in many ways LOL

More to post:

47. Project Offset - EOYC 2012 Contest

Good set, no glaring issues here either. The set was diverse in sound and had flow. I didnít get pulled in that much, but the overall presentation worked well in my opinion. I enjoyed that you played a wide range of styles in the set while still sticking to what came from the heart. Good call!

48. Pulse Origin - EOYC 2012 Contest

Psy-Trance playing out at its finest. Iíve never been heavy into Psy, so youíll have to take my comments with that filter. Mixing seemed alright, I never heard any major issues. Energy was a constant but that is no surprise considering your style choice. I enjoyed the set, and could feel myself grooving during it, though I also never got lost into it. Still trying to decide, but the overall presentation was good, and I feel you have a shot at a vote from me. I really liked hearing some obscure vocal bits and samples in the tracks (The Matrix and the Drill things made me chuckle in a good way). It was also neat to hear a couple of big tunes retooled into the style you presented here (Dogzilla and AvB remixes)

49. S.K.Y. - EOYC 2012 Contest

Not bad SKY but I didnít feel your set really offered all that much more than what I hear on AH regularly. It was a good mix of labels from two families really, which was nice as they put out good tunes. The technical side was clean but not engaging really for me. I canít fault you for a decent set and a good sound; you even threw Leon in there to entice me, but I donít think Iíll be voting just because I want to hear more variety of sounds here. Keep mixing, and work on finding your heart in the way you mix.

50. TranceMitor (Stalvart John) - EOYC 2012 Contest

Your set was alright mate, but kind of felt like above - tracks I hear on the shows around here or other stations a lot. That mix into Jaíi Envie De Toi was a little rough. Your track selection includes a lot of Top hits of the year, and I was glad to see Solarstone made your list for the mix. The mixing itself just needs to be cleaned up more in my opinion. Keep working on it!

51. Mardouk - EOYC 2012 Contest

Definitely a variety of sounds just looking at the labels you picked Ė good job! I wound up playing some Diablo 3 while listening and your sets varied atmosphere kept me focused and moving Ė both in game and in real life in my chair LOL. Overall, the mixes were fine, though a few felt a bit long and there were no noticeable clashes. Again, I liked the variety your set brought, so well done!

52. Alpha-Dog - EOYC 2012 Contest

This should come as no surprise to Alpha, but his and my tastes do differ. Iím glad to see you still doing what you love dude! Mixes were nice and clean, music was stuff Iíve no clue about LOL. Definitely on the energetic side, it was cool to finally sit down and listen critically to your stuff. Your sound is definitely more unique compared to the sets Iíve been hearing in the competition. The thing is, it doesnít pull me in enough to make me want to go for it. Just our tastes being what they are I figure. Good staying true to your passion though dude!

53. John Senak - EOYC 2012 Contest

Fast and furious mixing on this one. Your set has a huge amount of energy because of it, but Iím not sure I get into it enough to enjoy. There were definitely some great tracks in this mix (Go FALCONS!). A lot of the time Iím not sure where to focus on your mix though, as I donít see progression and just hear constant drops and energy riffs. While I can see a packed floor at the onset of the set, I see it emptying fairly quickly too because people never get the chance to breathe.

54. Vel - EOYC 2012 Contest

Your intro is really basic, and could have used a bit more, I donít know, pizazz? The track itself is really pretty though. It has emotion and the waves of calm awesome I love in this music, while still keeping a good beat! The mixes later on in the set start to get a bit less clean, or perhaps a little quicker and less focused. Keep your ears in there when mixing and keep up the work of selecting a plethora of sounds you love.

55. Matii G - EOYC 2012 Contest

Good tracks, and clean mixes, but for whatever reason I donít know why the first half sounds like so many other sets. Itís plagued me this whole contest that so many sets feature the same exact tracks. Youíve got tracks that are fresh and others that were big throughout the year, but they donít seem to branch out much until the end of your set. Iíd rather hear more of your closing sounds than the front half personally.

56. DanceMission - EOYC 2012

Cool mood right out of the gate Ė I loved the progression from track one to track two. Overall the progression of your set is really spot-on in my opinion. I love the inclusion of Fortuna as that track was one I hear a lot for good reasons! The one downside however to the set as a whole is that it is very Armada centric in my opinion. You chose good tracks out of the catalog, but you never really feel like you venture too far from their norm sound. I would love to see a bit more variety in your track choices in the future.

57. Trancepharaoh - EOYC 2012 Contest

Oh my gosh, I actually forgot I was listening while doing work to your set and forgot to comment! LOL. Sorry about that. The set itself actually flows pretty well, and I expected it to be a lot heavier considering your location and username. The front suffers the ďArmada focusĒ to me, and could do with some more variety. I looked for more progression as the set went on and it got there, but I never was grabbed by it. I was hearing it without listening if that makes sense. Canít say if it was simply a factor of work or something else.

58. dj_waxi - EOYC 2012

Some great tunes in this one right here. Not sure Iím sold on the mashups yet. I liked hearing some songs from a few years back. Be careful about key clashing by the way Ė that can totally throw the mood of your set off and push prospective listeners away.

Nice, have good luck!
