basically it's a phone service in germany. you register on their website, submit to them which podcast or stream you wanna listen to, and they give you a phone number for that stream. when you call this phone number (from any phone), you'll hear the podcast or stream in the phone.

the phone numbers have the area code of some german city, so it depends on where you call from how much it will cost you. they recommend using a phone provider and plan with a flatrate.

ps: apparently users are only able to submit podcast addresses to listen to, not stream urls. they ask the authors of web radios themselves to submit the streams if they want to make it available.

pps: their service is also reachable via SIP, the complete list is at Phonecaster.de - Anhoeren, the streams only are at Phonecaster.de - Anhoeren and the SIP URI is sip:49xxxxxxxxxxx@voip.phonecaster.de, where xxxxxxxx is the listed phone number without the leading 0 (so for example sip:49931663927117@voip.phonecaster.de). tested a few of them, some work, some don't. apparently they also offer some sort of live chat when you're connected, as well as their own "interactive" radio, however that works (their site makes it hard to get information out of it).

ppps: i used linphone to try (linux app), no idea what free SIP clients there are for windohs...

and pppps: they also say they're listed in ENUM, so if you're using a SIP provider that has ENUM peering, the calls will also be free...
