Silk Digital :: David Akermanis - Aura (incl. G-Tek remix) [SILK040]

For it's milestone 40th release, Silk Digital is proud to present a new two-track EP by Toronto-based house producer, DJ, and radio show extraordinaire David Akermanis. Perhaps best known for his classic radio show Progressive Aggressive, which had its finger firmly on the pulse of the progressive house revolution in Toronto, David is now the co-host of that city's equally popular and inspiring "Vital Radio" with DJ Endgame. He also has been turning out top tracks on Silk for several years now, as well as for a variety of other well-known imprints (Proton, Nellie, Shah).

The title cut of the EP, "Aura," is representative of Akermanis' general production style: soothing, proggy textures soaring above an aggressive bassline. This one explodes out of the gate with strong beats and a chugging bassline, soon followed by a variety of lovely pad sweeps and subtle arps. The break features a layered lead, which includes an emotionally incisive delayed piano chord. The drop to follow offers a furious peak-hour moment.

Panamanian star G-Tek follows up a recent remix for Silk Royal with a breath-taking rendering of "Aura," also replete with a variety of artist signatures. The spirit is similar to the original: a strong bassline and peak-hour prog house rhythm set the track off on a dancefloor-friendly note. Then, near the quarter turn, a chills-inducing series of vox samples begin to creep in the mix; G-Tek fans will recognize this unique signature well from his past originals and remixes on Silk. In the break, these samples are combined with a gorgeous, side-chained atmosphere and arena-filling bass, to awe-inspiring effect.

The second original and final cut in the pack is Akermanis' "Spark," which is a soothing, after-hours piece. The track centers on a funkier lead bassline, as well as delicate lead piano, which flutters in and out of the track. In the main break, David treats us to a beautiful piano solo, which becomes even more prominent and improvisational post-drop.
