illegal?

Hey everyone, does anybody know if its illegal to give away free mash ups. I have made a few and been giving them away but some one told me I could get done for it. Is this true?

Don't I have to be selling them or claiming that the originals are mine to make this illegal?

In Mashups, the songs you use are still the content owned by their respected copyright owners and if they want they can get you in trouble. It is not legal to distribute them for free because It is not your own creation. You can use Mashups for your private use and gigs only. Altough I have never heard that some record company sued someone for distributing Mashups.
