If you’ve had a look at Tomorrowland’s stage-by-stage lineups, you might’ve noticed something a little incongruous. Nestled in amongst the many A list-packed stages – with everyone from Dim Mak to Carl Cox and Q-Dance curating line-ups – there’s trance don Markus Schulz seemingly all alone in the arena of his name. No, it wasn’t a typo on Tomorrowland’s part – Markus Schulz is, just as that stage breakdown suggested, manning the arena all by himself. This morning, Schulz confirmed exactly how the day was going to run: “Scary,” he tweeted. “My 12 hour open to close set at @tomorrowland in Belgium is exactly a month away #MarathonTraining”.

So while the majority of Tomorrowland’s recruits are relegated to a 60-odd minute set, Schulz will be on the decks for 12 straight hours. That’s a rare booking for a festival. It’s not the first time he’s done it recently, either – last New Year’s Eve, the German gun polished off a 12 hour set at Avalon in Los Angeles. If you want an idea of what to expect, dive into a two hour segment of the epic Avalon set below, courtesy of on Schulz’s Soundcloud. Dubbed the “rabbit hole” section of the set, the 120-minutes on offer spans cuts from Deadmau5, Armin van Buuren, Sander van Doorn, Marco V and more.
