I'm starting this post to give a lot of info about the good old classic Belgian clubs that gave so many people the memories of their life. For me the start of trance back in the early 90s!
Feel free to provide your own info on Belgian clubs![]()

Name: Extreme
Location: Affligem (Belgium)
Opened: 1993
Closed: 2001
Club extreme opened his doors in 1993 and was located in Affligem. Extreme closed in 2001. In September 2009 Extreme opened at a new location in Lokeren.
Short after the closing of the Cherrymoon, the entire Bonzai crew moved to Extreme which resulted in a regular visit of DJ's like Yves Deruyter, Franky Cloeck, The Fly, Franky Jones and Bountyhunter.
In 1995 Extreme opened his doors on monday night with regular DJ Phi Phi who was already known for his monday sets at the old Boccaccio in Destelbergen. Extreme on mondays shorty became famous al over the benelux for the deep and trancy music. Year after year the music on monday became more progressive, artist such as John Digweed, Danny Howells, Cass, Anthony Pappa and Michel Dehey all played at the legendary monday club in Affligem.

Name: Boccaccio (Life)
Location: Destelbergen (Belgium)
Opened: 1963 !!! (rebuilt 1985)
Closed: after moving around, closed in 2012
Boccaccio was a nightclub in Destelbergen, near Ghent, Belgium.
The club is known being the breeding ground for New Beat.
It was a diamond shaped venue which was crowded at the time, with people from all over Europe wanting to hear this kind of new music.
Based on electronic body music but played very slow. Popular formations "bands" were Lords of Acid (with members Praga Khan and Jade 4U),
and Confetti's. Legend goes that one of the "bocca" Djs (often credited to Marc Grouls) played an EBM record on 33rpm instead of 45rpm
with the pitch control set to +8 and the Belgian New Beat was born.
The club was forced to close after a long series of drug problems.
They sold the name and the club was re-opened in Diest, and the name was recently sold to a club in Ostend.
Famous Djs at the club were Olivier Pieters, Marc Grouls and Henk.

My heart the beat
When I was in my twenties I only slept on Thursdays . Monday was Extreme , Friday , Saturday At the Villa or La Bush , Balmoral on Sunday afternoons , "mayday" in Germany a few times. Most places in Belgium a dozen times or more.
Still , why I registered and have to write this message is because in my opinion "At the villa" deserves a spot in your list. For the time it was open it was my favorite place to be . The atmosphere was what tomorrowland and other fairy tale themed venues are trying in vain to duplicate these days.
There are songs that played there which I never heard again , demos and try-outs on blank vinyl never to be heard again. I get teary eyed thinking of future generations never hearing them. History will show that the harsh treatment these places got was completely misplaced. The cultural value and renown these places gave to our general region on the globe will be something remembered in the future. The people responsible for suppressing it all will have their names forever known as well.
thanks mate, I must say I totally agree, however I just started this thread with a history of Legendary Belgian clubs that had oh so lovely music and provided so much memories, I only try to bring back some of these good memories, I can only say feel free to add Balmoral, or one of both At the villa's that were 100% of the legends. And there are dozens more, Belgium had a very wild history in the trance/rave/retro/bonzai music scene, please feel free to add... I will too, but later
PS: welcome aboard, some DJs or producers still try to keep the same feeling although it is getting difficult to find in the mess of commercial junk. All I hope that we never forget what it was! I hope some see that too, as most are getting lost in the noisescene ... but hey that is my opinion... I can also respect electro for the new generation, however IT IS NOT THE SAME. These clubs were the start of legends that are still loved for +20 years, electro well... lol no comment
