Config – Crossing Borderlines

Wouter Vermeire, a Belgian DJ, born in the year of 1985 and widely recognized by his stage name ‘Config’, had a deep passion for music from a very young age. Even as a little kid, he found himself attracted to highly melodic tracks, and one track that struck a chord in his heart and left an indelible mark was none other than Robert Miles’ “Children.” This early indication of his musical inclinations was an unmistakable sign that Config was not just another kid with pedestrian taste in popular music. Rather, he was a connoisseur of music that delved deeper into the soul and had the power to move people.

Growing up in a time when Trance was still a regular on the radio, it’s no surprise that the genre had a significant impact on his style of music to this day. Over the years, Config has experimented with several different styles of music. His first real love was for Progressive Trance and Progressive House, during the era when Sultan, Matthew Dekay, Sasha, and other luminaries of the genre reigned supreme. However, as time passed, he began to gravitate towards a more vigorous form of melodic music: Trance.

Config loved how Trance tracks could stir his emotions and resonate with his soul, causing a wave of euphoria to wash over him. It was an exciting time to be a Trance enthusiast, and it wasn’t surprising that most of his initial DJ sets were Trance-focused. However, in 2006, he began to feel disillusioned with the sound in the world of Trance. The tracks no longer possessed the magic they once had, and they seemed too generic and artificial. As a result, his sets gradually became crossover sets from progressive to trance, with progressive taking over more and more.

In 2007, Config decided to bid farewell to Trance and shift his focus entirely on Progressive again, which had always been his greatest love. From that point on, he diversified his repertoire, playing House and Techno, with ‘melody’ as the most crucial aspect in his sets. He also started creating mashups of his favorite tracks, which garnered support from some of the most famous DJs in the scene, such as 16BL, James Zabiela, DJ Orkidea, XiJaro & Pitch, and many more.

Many years have passed since those early days, but Config remains a force to be reckoned with in the music scene, offering the best in various melodic genres and creating sets with a compelling narrative that can move both the mind and the body.
